Girija Shankar is an Indian actor and producer. He is best known for his role as Dhritarashtra in the epic Indian television series Mahabharata. Girija Shankar was born in 59 years old in in Patiala, Punjab. Shankar wanted to join the Air Force since he was a child. He even gave the entrance exam but failed due to his age minor. Girija passed the entrance audition but was not admitted to the academy due to some personal reasons.

After this, he started studying acting at an acting academy in Patiala. During this time, he met Harpal Tivana and performed plays there for about 5 years. He then moved to Delhi and then to Mumbai to practice drama.
